Types and features of laminated glass interlayers

Laminated glass is made by sandwiching one or more layers of organic polymer interlayer films between two or more pieces of glass, and is formed through high temperature and high pressure.The existence of the laminated glass interlayer makes it have excellent safety and sound insulation properties, and is widely used in the construction field.

There are three types of laminated glass interlayers commonly used: PVB, SGP, EVA. The features of each are as follows:

1.PVB interlayer
PVB interlayer has high cold resistance, impact resistance, and ultraviolet resistance, and is currently the most widely used interlayer material for architectural glass and automotive glass. However, PVB has poor water resistance, and it is easy to open and fall off in a humid environment for a long time.

2.SGP interlayer
Mainly used in glass daylighting roof and glass exterior windows, curtain walls and railings. It has the following features:

① High bearing capacity and tear resistance: the bearing capacity of SGP laminated glass is twice that of PVB interlayer with the same thickness, and the tear strength is 5 times that of PVB interlayer
②Bending deflection is only 1/4 of that of PVB laminated glass, so it is not easy to bend.
③Strong stability and moisture resistance. The SGP laminated film itself is colorless, highly transparent, and has good weather resistance, and is not easy to yellow. The yellowing coefficient of SGP film is less than 1.5, while the yellowing coefficient of PVB film is 6~12, so SGP is mostly used in ultra clear laminated glass.

3. EVA interlayer

Compared with PVB or SGP, EVA has a lower melting temperature and better fluidity. Wires or fabrics can be inserted into the film layer to make decorative glass with patterns and patterns. It also has good water resistance, but has weak UV resistance and is prone to yellowing when exposed to the sun for a long time. Therefore, it is mainly used for indoor partitions and decorations.
